New construction sites come with a lot of moving parts - and one of the most common things that gets overlooked until the last minute is what to do with grade changes and sloped ground around the home. Left unaddressed, those areas erode, shift, and cause real problems down the road. That's where we come in.
We handle boulder retaining walls on new builds start to finish. That means the excavation, the grading, and placing every rock with purpose. We run a Kubota KX057-5 with a hydraulic grapple attachment, which gives us the precision to set large boulders exactly where they need to go - tight against the foundation, stacked in layers, locked in place. No guessing, no gaps.
What you're looking at here is a tiered system. Two separate boulder walls stepping up the grade along the back side of a newly built home. Each tier holds back its own level of soil, which distributes the load and keeps everything stable long-term. It's a smarter approach than one tall wall trying to do all the work.
The beauty of natural boulders is that they're not going anywhere. They don't crack like concrete block, they don't need mortar, and they hold up to Minnesota freeze-thaw cycles better than most alternatives. They also look great once the yard gets finished out. Functional and clean - that's the goal on every job we do.
If you're building new and need retaining walls as part of your grading and site work, we'd love to talk. We do this kind of work all the time and we know how to get it done efficiently without cutting corners on the stuff that matters.
