







A sloped yard sounds fine until you actually need to use it. This customer had a hillside running along the side of their home and wanted to put a shed in - but there was nowhere flat to put one. That's where we came in.
We started by excavating into the hillside to carve out the space needed. That meant cutting back a significant amount of soil and getting the grade right before anything else could happen. Once the hillside was cut back, we built a boulder retaining wall to hold everything in place. The wall wraps the perimeter of the excavated area - locking in the hillside and giving the space a clean, defined edge.
Boulder retaining walls are a great fit for situations like this. They're built to handle real load and pressure from the soil behind them. And unlike some other wall options, they don't rely on pins, adhesives, or block systems that can shift and fail over time. The weight and fit of the boulders themselves do the work.
With the wall in place, we prepared a compacted gravel base across the entire pad. A properly compacted gravel base is critical for a shed - it keeps the structure level, prevents settling, and stops moisture from working its way under the floor over time. Skipping that step is one of the most common mistakes people make when setting a shed.
What started as an unusable hillside is now a solid, level space ready to hold a shed for years to come. The wall handles the hillside, the gravel base handles the shed - and the customer gets the functional yard space they were after from the start.
